Carla Della Gatta is a theatre historian and performance theorist whose research focuses on ethnicity and aurality. Carla is a professional dramaturg and theatre consultant who specializes in bilingual theatre, with an emphasis on integrating foreign languages into classical and early modern plays. She is Associate Professor of Theatre and Performance Studies at University of Maryland, College Park. Carla is author of Latinx Shakespeares: Staging US Intracultural Theater (2023) and co-editor of Shakespeare and Latinidad (2021). She built and manages the first archive of Latinx theatrical adaptation, LatinxShakespeares.Org. Carla has received numerous grants and awards including those from the Woodrow Wilson Foundation (now Citizens and Scholars), Folger Shakespeare Library, New York Public Library, American Society for Theatre Research, and the Shakespeare Association of America. She has served on the Steering Committee for the Latinx Theatre Commons since 2017 and is an active member of The Fornés Institute.
