I’m a DC-based, Southwest-raised, Mexican-Japanese, queer, interdisciplinary theatremaker whose praxis lies at the intersection of directing, acting, devising, and dramaturgy. Tenets of my work involve investigating intercultural performance source texts and approaches, placing texts in conversation with contemporary technological interfaces and/or ecologically-informed systems, creating lenses to adapt less-known stories, reclaiming space for oral histories, crafting living archives, reacknowledging the civic duty of the theatre, facilitating healing, and working form-first. By offering a roadmap for navigating an awareness of complicity and balance in the work we make, perhaps we may be able to arrive at a better understanding of how to heal, feel, question, and grow.

The plays that I remember the most are ones that understand their own relationship to breath. If a play can teach you how it breathes and get you to breathe at the same rhythm, then the chances are that the people in that audience, the people who are sharing that space -- their bodies won't be able to forget it. In understanding breath, the play understands the fragility of what makes we the living, the living. Thus, a core question across my praxes is: 'what is the play's relationship to its own breath?'"
