My name is Bria Mukes, graduated from Bowie State with a bachelor of fine arts degree with a passion for scenic design, electrical & production. I also enjoy being outdoors, traveling, trying to experiences and being around animals. As a former athlete, I love sports as well. As an artist who has danced for many years, I use the knowledge I have from on stage to the behind the scenes work, becoming more of a well-rounded artist. Growing up, my parents had put me in many athletic sports hoping one would stick. Between gymnastics, cheer, soccer and dance, dance is what I fell in love with. Inspired by hip hop culture such as bboying, tutting, voguing as well as my extensive background and training in contemporary ballet, I’ve enjoyed fusing these two genres and making my signature unique style of movement. Through dance I intend to create and inspire others, particularly focusing on the intersection of mental health and artistic expression in high functioning depression. Although I will always have a passion and strong connection with being on stage as a performer, sophomore year at Bowie state, I found a joy in technical theater that later became something even more. My work serves as a conduit for exploring reforming and reimagining what the theatrical design world looks like, with people who look like me. I’ve been able to come in contact with numerous designers more than willing to help and support me in any way they can. Ultimately, my art is a reflection of my own experience and how I feel it relates to others. Proven ability to work collaboratively in teams, with strong skills in communication, problem-solving, and customer service. Dependable and punctual, with a commitment to excellence.
